What dye to use on my hair?

Hey everyone, my hair at the moment is a reddish brown that I want to get rid of terribly. My natural colour is a dark brown, maybe like an espresso brown. What is a good hair dye that won't kill my hair (I'm growing it out quite long). Should I use a temporary dye like herbashine or a permanent dye? This colour I have at the moment was a temporary that just refuses to come out of my hair.
