What should we do? i like him alot?

i like my friend Karl and we are good friends. our other friends keep telling us we should go out and i think we should too but there's one problem. hes almost 17 and im 15.. i dont know if its illegal or not. hes a real good guy. ive never had a boyfriend and hes never had a girlfriend.(that i know of) please help
