Can coffee cause heart palpitations but not tea?

I have been having problems with my heart in the past 2 weeks. I am not a coffee drinker but I do like drinking coca cola or pepsi. My heart was doing flip flops in my chest it felt like it stopped and started again with a big thump which I could feel through my chest. I read up that caffeine can do that to you so I stopped drinking. The past 3 days I have not had one heart palpitation. Even when I am excercising my heart may beat fast but is regular and once I rest it returns to its normal resting pulse. I am still going to see a cardiologist because my ECG is abnormal and I was having chest pain as well. But I really think caffeine is a big culprit in heart palpitations.
