Would you send sensitive email to business clients over gmail?

I've had a gmail account for quite a while but I continue to question whether or not it is secure from unwanted intruders. Many months ago google had ads that were being shown in the gmail interface which closely matched the subject and detail in my emails. They discontinued the program and probably for the fact that it was being read by commercial interests!! Now - how secure is it?
